Handler FAQ

Maintenance and Recovery — Daily Support for the Tactical Canine Athlete

What is Maintenance and Recovery™?

Maintenance and Recovery™ is a daily-use performance support supplement designed specifically for working dogs. It helps manage BOTH the MENTAL and PHYSICAL stress associated with training, deployments, detection work, bite work, tracking, and repetitive impact activities.

It is formulated to support normal inflammatory response, mobility, and recovery—without sedation or performance suppression.

How is this different from a joint supplement?

Joint supplements focus on structure (cartilage, synovial fluid, joint integrity).

Maintenance and Recovery™ focuses on function and recovery, supporting:

• Muscle and soft tissue resilience

• Normal post-exertion soreness response

• Mobility after intense work cycles

• Whole-body recovery between training days

  • Response to physical and mental demands

Joint products build the frame.

Maintenance and Recovery™ keeps the athlete moving.

Can it be used during heavy training or deployment cycles?

Yes. Although you can use this every day (gold standard), it is especially crucial during a 72-hour train cycle (The day your dog trains and 2 days after). For instance, if you train bi-weekly on a Wed, you would administer Wed, Thur and Fri.

It is especially useful during:

• Certification preparation

• Multi-day training blocks

• High repetition bite work

• Extended tracking/search operations

• Environmental stress (heat, cold, hard terrain)

It supports recovery so the dog can maintain consistent performance.

Will this slow my dog down or affect drive?

No.

The formula is designed specifically for operational dogs and does not sedate, dull awareness, or change behavior. It supports recovery from the neurological and physical demands that high drive dogs experience.

Handlers report dogs remain:

✔ Clear-headed

✔ Engaged

✔ Willing to work

✔ Physically comfortable

✔ Focused and Driven

✔ Settled after intense deployments

How does this support neurological demands? (Nervous System Fatigue)

High drive dogs stress their entire system. Repeated high arousal activities such as deployments, tracking and bite work, place demands on both the body and the nervous system.

This product contains alkaloids (THP), that can affect dopamine signaling and stress related nervous system activity. For a working dog, this may help to support:

  • Reduced residual tension after training
  • Improved ability to settle after high arousal
  • Maintenance of willingness to work on subsequent days
  • recovery from the cumulative stress of repeated sessions

Can this be used with my dog’s current joint product?

Yes.

Maintenance and Recovery™ is intended to complement, not replace, structural joint support.

Many agencies use:

• Joint supplement → Long-term joint health

• Maintenance and Recovery™ → Daily recovery and workload support

Is this a replacement for veterinary care or prescribed medications?

No.

Maintenance and Recovery™ is a nutritional support tool, not a drug.

It can be used as part of a veterinarian-directed plan to help maintain normal mobility and comfort but does not replace diagnosis, treatment, or medical management when needed. This product is carried in integrative veterinary practices.

When should I start using it?

Ideally:

• At the start of a working career

• During conditioning phases

• Before visible slowing or stiffness appears

Again this should be administered during and post train (72 hours). See dosing protocol.

Prevention is easier than rebuilding after injury.

How quickly will I notice a difference

Many handlers observe improvements in:

• Warm-up stiffness

• Willingness to load/jump

• Post-training recovery

• Overall fluid movement

  • Improved settling

Results vary depending on workload and condition, but consistency is key. Some ingredients take effect within a couple hours.

Is it safe for long-term use?

Yes.

The ingredients are selected for daily use in high-performance dogs and are commonly used to support normal musculoskeletal function over time.

What types of dogs benefit most?

Maintenance and Recovery™ was developed for:

• Patrol / Apprehension dogs

• Detection dogs

• SAR dogs

• Military working dogs

• High-level sport dogs

• Any canine performing repetitive physical work

What problem does this solve for handlers?

Handlers often face:

• “He’s not injured, just not moving right.”

• Lost training days from soreness

• Early physical wear in young, high-drive dogs

• Managing workload without overusing pharmaceuticals

Maintenance and Recovery™ helps bridge the gap between peak performance and preventable breakdown.

How does this help extend a dog’s career?

By supporting:

✔ Daily recovery from repetitive stress

✔ Comfortable mobility through training cycles

✔ Reduced accumulation of workload fatigue

✔ Consistent operational readiness

✔ Recovery from intense high drive mental output

Healthy recovery = more productive years in service.

How do I administer it?

Administer according to body weight and workload level as directed on the product label. Visit our product page for various dosing protocols.

It can be given with food as part of the dog’s normal feeding routine. There is no taste so you can just give it with food AM and PM.

3 DOSING PROTOCOLS FOR THE WORKING DOG

There are 3 strategic dosing protocols. This makes Maintenance
and Recovery™ dosing protocols practical, budget-aware, and
designed for real-world K9 units.

Option 1: Daily Dosing (gold standard)
Best for:
Full-time patrol dogs
High repetition training cycles
Older working dogs
Dogs with previous injury
Why?:
Maintains steady modulation of inflammatory pathways
Prevents accumulation of micro-stress
Provides consistent tissue resilience

Option 2: Training Day +48 Hours After
This works best for:
Agencies with structured training days
Dogs that work intensely but not daily
Departments managing tight budgets
Benefits:
Addresses the peak inflammatory window
Reduces post-training soreness
Supports soft tissue recovery
Cuts cost by 78% depending on frequency
Limitations:
Does not maintain steady-state modulation
Less protective against cumulative daily patrol stress

Option 3: 72 Hour Train Cycle + Daily
(When needed)
Instead of choosing one or the other, consider a tiered protocol.
Base Plan
Dose on:
Training days
Deployment-heavy days
48-72 hours after
Intensive Phase
During:
Certification prep
Multi-day seminars
Heavy bite cycles
Injury recovery periods
Switch to daily dosing for 2-4 weeks, then return to base dosing. This gives
departments flexibility without sacrificing performance
